'Darius Benjamin Jones was born in Chautauqua Co,
at Jamestown, NY Aug. 9, 1834. The deseased went to
Canada when 18 years old. In 1856 he moved to
Kansas and joined an emigrant company under the
direction of the Massachusetts Aid Society. While there
he married Margaret Bertha Cowan on Nov. 29, 1857.
To this union was born fourteen children.... In his long
life Brother Jones made several moves, mention of
which will be of interest to his many friends. From
1862 to 1872 he was engaged in the mercantile
business in Elmwood, Illinois 1872 to 1879 in the same
business at Emerson, Iowa. In 1879 he homesteaded in
Armada township, part of the time being engaged in
the mercantile business. In 1894 to 1900 he had stores
at Lomax, Buffalo, and Sumner. The summer of 1900
was spent ona farm between Sumner and Miller, the
winter of 1900-1901 at Scottsbluff. He moved to
Minnesota in 1901 where he farmed until he returned
to Miller on account of the health of his wife, his wife
dying the same fall. He has made his home since with
his children in and around Sumner and Miller. he
departed this life Tues, Jan. 29, 1918 age 83 yr 5
months and 20 days.'
