John: email from Chip Charvat (August 2000)
I am a descendant of John Frederick Young and Caroline (nee) Simmons.
John F. was the son of John (Jung) Young who came from the Baden area of
Germany around 1834. He moved from NY to IL a few years later. Elder John
was at one time the Oldest Living Oddfellow. I believe he is buried in
Bushnell IL.
John F. married Caroline and had three sons and and a daughter with her. She
died in her 30's. John hired Emma Drake of Greenbush as housekeeper/nanny
and married her about a year later. The three rest in Greenbush Cemetary in
Warren county (near the Swan Creek community).
I am the great-grandson of George Young the eldest son of John and Caroline.
They also had Lewis and Allen , and the daughter I can't remember but may
have been Katherine. John and Emma had Otto, Charlie, daughter Annie, and
another son whose name I forget.
My grandfather was Nealy Young who married Marie Larson of Macomb. He farmed
at Avon IL for many years. Nealy died Oct. 1985 at Monmouth.
You can also get great background info on the settlers in the area including
the Simmons line in an old book 'Early Days in Greenbush'.
Check with the Warren County Historical Society in Monmouth on this.
They have a web page with the address, but can't remember the URL offhand.
