Hattie Kimball lived in Joliet, Ill. In July 1933 she gave this detail of the circumstances of her father's death.

'He had been in his usual health and one day, at early evening, he walked to the house of a friend. Arrived there, he stepped into a little shop on the grounds and must have immediately dropped dead, as he was found lying on the floor as he dropped, with his overcoat still on.'
