He was the son of Jeremiah Early Rogers and Fanny Henderson Clark. After graduating from the medical branch of Transylvania University in Lexington, he moved to Madison and set up his practice as a physician and surgeon. His office was located on the West Side of Poplar between Main Cross and Third.
He left his practice in 1836 and recruited a company of volunteers for the Army of the Republic of Texas eventually becoming a Colonel and commanding a regiment. He went back to Madison in 1837 and resumed his practice.
He married Abigail Goodwin Lane in 1839. They had six children: Joseph Goodwin, William Henry, Fanny Clark, George, Lucy Flint and Coleman.
Joseph's grandfather, Joseph Hale Rogers, was the brother of my 4th great grandfather, William Rogers, Sr.
