Hugh was born on ABT 1150 in of Ewias Lacy, Herefordshire, England and died on 25 JUL 1185 in Meath, Ireland . He was the son of Gilbert de Lacy (ABT 1104 - 1163) and Agnes (de Lacy) (B: 1108). Hugh is said to have built Nugent castle in 1181 for
his brother-in-law, Sir Gilbert de Nugent who resided in it for some time before
building the neighboring 'Castle of Clonyn'.
Three years after the Norman invasion of Ireland, a Norman, Hugh de Lacy, founded Trim Castle in 1173 by building a motte with a timber tower
as the first step towards the conquest of County Meath.
In 1204 de Courcy was expelled from Ulster
by Hugh de Lacy who proceeded to
strengthen the [Dundrum Castleby building the
massive round keep, probably employing
master masons from the Welsh Marches.
Greencastle was built by Hugh de Lacy almost
certainly during the 1230s to protect the southern
approaches to the Earldom of Ulster.
