Adams Family - Ourfolk

One of the most interesting weddings of the winter season was that of Miss Mary Pickens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Owen Pickens, and Mr. Henry Clay Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Adams, both well known and prominent families of this city, which took place last evening at the First Baptist Church.

A large and fashionable audience was present to witness the ceremony, performed by Rev. T. J. Villers, pastor of the church. Mr. Arthur P. Preston presided at the organ and played a varied programme as the guests arrived and were escorted to the pews by the ushers, Messrs. Philemon M. Watson, Theodore P. Haughey, jr., Elmo Franklin of Lexington. 111., Rush Pickens, a brother of the bride, Samuel Van Camp and John Wallick. At the arrival of the bridal party the wedding march from Lohengrin was played and the procession to the pulpit was led by the ushers. The bride's attendants were Misses Ida and Nancy Cox, of Spencer, cousins of the bride. Miss Elizabeth Davis, of Boston, Miss Rose Burbey, of Reaoing, Pa., and Miss Stella Adams, sister of the groom, and Miss Jennie Pickens, sister of the bride, as maid of honor. The bride entered with her father and was met at the pulpit by the groom and his best man, Mr. Albert Lynn, of Pittsburg, Pa.

The pulpit was massed with palms and lilies and made an effective background for the bridal party. The bride wore an elegant gown of white satin, en train, with a iiccollete corsage, the satin combined with liberty silk and duchesse lace. A veil enveloped her figure and she carried a large bouquet of lilies of the valley. The maid of honor was dressed in green silk, veiled in white liberty silk, made with a low corsage, and her flowers were Bride roses.

The bridesmaids were dressed alike in white silk draped with white liberty silk made in a graduated flounce. The low corsage was shirred and a rose bow- of velvet, c e shades of green, adorned the corsage. The> carried bouquets of maidenhair fern. All of the appointments were in green and white. As the ceremony proceeded the soft music from the organ accompanied the words of the minister. For the recessional the wedding march by Mendelssohn was played. Following the ceremony at the church a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, on North New Jersey street, only young people being the guests. The house was made attractive with palms, ferns, holiday garlands and smilax, and in each room different flowers lent their color and fragrance.

In the parlor were pink roses and in the other rooms American Beauty roses. Mr. and Mrs. Pickens and Mr. and Mrs. Adams, parents of the bride and groom, with the bridal party, received the guests. An orchestra played throughout the evening. Among the guests from out of town were Judge and Mrs. Franklin, of Spencer, grandparents of the bride; Mrs. C. D. Bush, of Lexington, 111.; Dr. and Mrs. Cox, of Spencer; Mrs. Charles Wood, of Terre Haute, and Mrs. Maud Pickens Davidson, of Winfield, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Adams left last evening for an Eastern trip, going as far as New Y r ork, and on their return they will be at home at the Victoria, Fridays, after Feb. 15.
