SMITH, Thomas Smith of England, came to America and settled in Virginia. His son, Thomas, Jr., married a Miss Davis, and settled in South Carolina. They had John, Thomas, Charles, Moses and several daughters. John was married first to Rebecca Jeffers, by whom he had William, John and Polly. He was married the second time to Sarah Moseley, by whom he had Nimrod, Abel, Garland, James, Thomas, Edward, Susan, Nancy and Lucretia. Nimrod married Celia Gunn, and settled in Callaway County in 1837. They had Isaac, William, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Sarah J. and Nancy. Mr. Smith is still living in his 73 year; his wife is in her 69th year, and blind.
Thomas's sons, Moses and Thomas, III, along with an Ezekiale Smith, John Hibbard, Isaac Jones and William Jones, are said to be 'THE FIRST FAMILIES OF GOOSE CREEK.' When these Smith-Hibbard-Jones settlers purchased their lands there (in the late 1700's) Goose Creek was part of Knox County, Kentucky, but in 1807, that section became part of Clay County, Kentucky.
