-- Nancy --
When Nancy Finley married Joseph Hough she was a widow. Her first husband was William Bell. Nancy Finley and William Bell are the parents of David Hough's (b: 1821) first wife, Nancy Bell. Apparently she raised her daughter's and son in laws children after her daughter Nancy died.

She was born in a log house, which later became the residence of Henry Sherbondy. The old house was taken down in 1934. Henry still owned the farm in 1935.

-- Joseph --
was a pioneer not only in the cummunity but also in education. He ggave the land for the first schoolhouse in the community and had it built. He also built and operated a flout mill, a carding mill, a distilery, a sawmill and a boatyard on his large farm at the mouth of Jacob;s Creek.

Joseph:

Joseph Hough settled on Jacobs Creek, where he owned a large tract of land. Joseph gave the land and had the first public school house built in the Jacobs Creek community. He built and operated a flour mill, carding mill, distillery, sawmill and boatyard on a large farm at the mouth of Jacobs Creek. He erected a mill, which supplied the wants of the settlers for miles around. He had eleven children. One was in Indiana, one in Iowa, and one in Missouri.

Joseph: Hoffman Cemetery

Hoffman Cemetery is just outside of Smithton, it sets on a small hill that overlooks a valley where field are planted with crops. It is a beautiful site. The meeting house sits close to the edge of the hill that overlook the road. There is a road that goes into it that makes a U around the building. You enter by the left side, and to your left are the recent graves, in the middle are recent ones and old ones. To the right of the U are a couple new ones and a lot of old ones.
