James:
The information on the descent from James Chilton down to Richard Adams Sr. is based on the Document 'The Mayflower Page,' compiled by a William G. Himmelright (1888-1970), which descends from James Chilton through Miles Jones Jr., who is also one of our forebears, his daughter Sarah Maria Jones, being my Great-Grandmother, married to William Henry Douglass.

For W.G. Himmelrights document, see:

James Chilton represents an importance in our family genealogy in that he and his wife and daughter Mary were among the passengers aboard the Mayflower, which reached Plymouth Harbor, MA in 1620.
As of July 1, 2002, the only acestry we have on James Chilton is that he was the son of Lyonell Chilton, and the grandson of Richard Chilton.
One reference on James Chilton indicates a birth date of 'bef. 1563'; four others show a date of 1560.
The mother of James is not clear. Various references show Lyonell as having two wives, (1) Edith //, (2) Isabell Furner. Ome reference showed the mother as Edith Isabell. Another reference showed Edith as (Mrs.) Edith Chilton, which suggests that she may have been married before. All this suggests that perhaps there was only one wife. This should be further investigated. (ADH Sr.)

James:
James, a tailor by trade, was the oldest of all the Mayflower
passengers, and one of the first to die after reaching the new
world. He was born and raised in Canterbury, Kent, England,
and around 1600 moved to Sandwich, Kent.

By July 1615, James, his wife, and at least a few of his children
were living around Leyden, Holland. He came on the
Mayflower with his wife and daughter Mary. James and his
wife died the first winter upon reaching the new world, leaving
their daughter orphaned. Mary Chilton as popular legend has
it, was the first female to step ashore at Plymouth.

James father was Lyonell Chilton. The name of James wife is
currently unknown at this time. Popular belief was that his wife
was Susanna Furners......based upon more current research,
that has been dispelled due to discovery of Susanna's baptism
record, she was too young.

James:

James was the oldest passenger on the Mayflower. James was accompanied on the trip by his wife and daughter Mary. Mary was the first female to step ashore at Plymouth. Isabella followed on a later ship.

Apparently, the Chiltons were among the Separtists aboard the Mayflower. A reference shows:
'Some original English documents have been discovered which provide further information about the Chiltons of the Mayflower.'
'Mrs. Chilton, Moses Fletcher, and Thomas Bartlett wete excommunicated in Sandwich, Kent on 12 Jun 1609.' Orginal source record is Canterbury Cathedral Archives, X.2.5,f153V. This may be the first record of the prosecution of a female Mayflower Pilgrim for Separtist acts.
