Jack Willis Hamm, 92, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Naples, Fla.

Jack was born July 14, 1921, at Alamo, to William S. and Cora Hylton Hamm. He graduated from Waynetown High School in 1939. While serving in the Army during World War II, he married Ellen Jane EJ Worley on Dec. 24, 1944. In April of 1955 he opened the NAPA Auto Parts store in Greencastle, which is still owned and operated by his son, Bill, and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, EJ.

Surviving are his two children, William Jack (Karen) Hamm, Greencastle, and Carol Ellen Hamm, Greencastle; grandchildren, Nathan Hamm and Emily (Zac) Sitterding; and three great-grandsons, Ethan, Eli and Hudson.

Jack was active in the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, having served as Exalted Ruler in Greencastle and again for two more terms in Naples, Fla. He loved waterskiing, boating, restoring antique cars, singing and playing guitar and enjoying life at his home on Lake Freeman in Monticello.

In April 2014 he was privileged to join his fellow comrades and veterans of World War II on an Honor Flight from Naples to Washington, D.C., to tour the war memorials and be recognized and thanked for their service to our country.

A celebration of Jack s life will take place at 2 p.m. June 23, 2014, at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, Greencastle, with an Elks walk-through beforehand.
