came over on the ship Fortune in 1621 - settled first in Plymouth, then
in Duxbury and finally in Bridgewater, Mass. - of which town he was an
original proprietor.
He was a large landowner - with only four in Plymouth paying a higher
taxin 1633. He had a large library of books. His name is on the
earliest list of freemen in 1633. He was a volunteer for the Pequod
War in 1637 and on the committee to lay out the town of Duxbury.
